Ansu Kumar Bhuyan of Gurukul Tennis Academy justified his status as top seed by winning the men`s singles title in the 8th Odisha Open Tennis Tournament here at Bhubaneswar Club courts today. He beat fifth seed Avilash Mishra in the all-Bhubaneswar final in straight sets to receive the Major Sandeep Mohapatra Memorial Trophy and a cash prize of Rs 12,000. Runner-up Mishra of S S Tennis Academy settled with Rs 6,000.
Satirtha Patnaik emerged another major achiever of the three-day tournament, bagging a double. Despite being handicapped with tennis elbow, he won the two titles in men`s open doubles and mixed doubles events with Ajay Kumar Nishank and Rutuparna Choudhury respectively as partners.
The three senior doubles titles were claimed by Rajpal Singh and Rabindra Senapati in 40+ category, Ajay Kumar Sahoo and J N Patnaik in 50+ group, Aroon Birla and Amarendra Mohanty in 60+ section. Odisha State Development Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi handed over the trophies and cash prizes at the closing function. Host Khurda District Tennis Association president Madhusudan Padhi and secretary Asit Pradhan were present on the occasion.
